Atlanta sports fans have a big day ahead, with both the Braves and the Dream in position to clinch playoff series wins on Wednesday.
The Braves, after rallying past the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 1 of the NL Wild Card Series, face Philadelphia again in Game 2 at Truist Park at 2 p.m. Austin Riley, who delivered a game-winning three-run homer in the opener, will be one to watch. Tyler Mahle takes the mound for Atlanta against Philadelphia's Cristopher Sanchez. A win sends the Braves to the NL Division Series against the Dodgers — a notable milestone, since Atlanta has never beaten Philadelphia in a playoff series. A loss would push the series to a Game 3 in Atlanta on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Dream look to build on their Game 1 comeback win over the Washington Mystics, with Game 2 tipping off at 7 p.m. in Washington. Guard Rhyne Howard, who posted 26 points and five steals in the opener, leads a lineup that also includes Jordin Canada, Allisha Gray, Naz Hillmon and Angel Reese. A Dream victory would send them to the semifinals to face the New York Liberty; a loss would set up a decisive Game 3 back in Atlanta on Friday.
