Darren Foster has lived a lot of lives across a lot of cities — born in New York, eight years in Los Angeles, and now two decades deep in Atlanta, the city he calls home today. Known widely as Billy Bad Axx, he's the president and founder of the Trap Music Awards and the publisher and writer behind the Official Goat Book, a hip hop encyclopedia. His path started small — literally. Foster got his start throwing parties in New York and New Jersey before scaling up to major events, including work with New York's Kids Radio alongside Wendy Williams and her husband at the time. Before he was known for trap music, though, Foster built his name in fashion, launching the Billy Bad Axx apparel label and founding Urban Fashion Week, which he toured through New York, Miami, D.C., Atlanta, Charlotte, and eventually Paris. As he's put it, most people move from music into fashion — he did it in reverse, and now does both. That crossover instinct carried into music business ventures like BBA Entertainment/BBA Management, an independent label launched in 2013 with major-label distribution, and the Started From The Bottom Tour. The throughline in all of it, Foster says, is the Trap Music Awards — his platform for recognizing artists, producers, writers, and video directors shaping trap music, which he also hosts alongside the affiliated Trap Awards Radio & Podcast Show. Right now, Foster is focused on expansion: Trap Music Awards stops are set for Houston on October 3 and Dallas on October 4, with New York and other cities in the works before year's end. For Foster, the mission isn't really about his own spotlight. "Through my dreams, other people's dreams can come true," he says, encouraging patience over rushing toward a glimmer of success. And despite the executive titles, he wants people to know there's more to him than the industry — he's a father of five first.
