Though she's not an Atlanta native, Nikoleta Morales's story is one many in this city of transplants and dreamers will recognize: an immigrant who arrived in the U.S. alone at 15 from Bulgaria and built a career from the ground up. Now based in Chicago, Morales has spent over a decade carving out a place in entertainment journalism, one interview at a time.
Her path started in 2012, when she took the role of Managing Editor at a local newspaper called Extra. It was there that she landed her first celebrity interview, with musician Draco Rosa, and found the beat that would define her career. From that point on, she leaned fully into entertainment journalism, eventually covering major events like the Oscars and writing for a range of outlets in the U.S. and abroad, including Cultured Focus Magazine, BG Voice, the Daily Herald, Lawndale News, and Noseweek in South Africa. Over the years, her interview subjects have spanned musicians, actors, athletes, and public figures.
Morales also runs her own entertainment blog and continues to build her freelance portfolio, describing her current focus as seeking out new freelance writing opportunities. She's also in the process of finishing a memoir she started back in 2020, a project that promises to dig deeper into the personal journey behind her byline.
Ask her what keeps her going, and she doesn't point to red carpets or bylines. It's her daughter, whom she calls her biggest source of daily motivation and encouragement, and someone she credits with fueling her love of being a mom alongside her work.
If there's a single message Morales hopes readers take from her story, it's persistence: to hold onto faith and keep going no matter the obstacles. It's a philosophy that traces back to a 15-year-old who came to America alone and built a career from scratch.
