James Artissen, a Grammy-nominated producer and songwriter who built his career behind the scenes, has launched an independent record label and stepped into the spotlight as a solo artist.
Artissen founded the new imprint, Humble Sound Records, in partnership with Sony Orchard, positioning it as a home for multiple artists and collaborative projects within Atlanta's music scene. A graduate of the Art Institute of Atlanta's audio production program, he's spent years producing and writing for major names including Justin Bieber, Meek Mill, Lil Jon and Rick Rubin — work that stayed largely uncredited to the public despite its reach.
The label's launch comes alongside his debut solo single, "Blank Face," with a collaborative follow-up called "Whole Room Lit" — featuring Khujo Goodie, Lil Jon and Rick Rubin — still to come. Artissen discussed the shift from producer to artist in a recent appearance on ATL Live, framing the label as the next phase of a career spent mostly out of frame.
More independent releases are expected from Humble Sound Records in the months ahead.
