James Artissen has worn a lot of hats in the music business, but he traces it all back to a single encounter. Born James Allen Worthy in Queens and raised with New York's influence baked into his sound, he began pursuing music at 16 after meeting Michael Jackson at Webster Hall — a moment he cites as his biggest inspiration and the push that set his career in motion. That path eventually led him to Atlanta, where he entered a high school recording studio through a mentoring program tied to Dallas Austin. He started as a songwriter, then moved into production, teaching himself to sing along the way while studying artists like A Tribe Called Quest, Whodini, and The Weeknd. A bachelor's degree in audio production from The Art Institute of Atlanta helped turn that foundation into placements with mainstream acts. By 2017, Artissen stepped from behind the boards into artistry, first with the duo Kings X2 and later as a solo act, releasing EPs including "Blu Leisure" and "Kaleidoscopes," and collaborating with Goodie Mob's Big Gipp on the joint project "Gipp N Worthy." Alongside his own catalog, he's continued building as a music executive, founding Humble Sound Records in 2024 in partnership with The Orchard, a Sony Music division, with a roster that includes Tynisha Keli and B Angie B. Now he's looking ahead. James is working on his debut album, "Nevermind What U Said," slated for 2027, alongside a documentary chronicling his own story. Across all of it, he says the goal stays the same: authenticity and relatability, the throughline he wants listeners to walk away with regardless of genre. For a career that's spanned R&B, hip-hop, pop, and dance, that intention — more than any single record — is what he hopes defines him next.
