Joaicon Is Building His Own Neon-Lit Pop Universe

Before Joaicon was writing songs, he was writing everything else. Growing up in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, he was a kid obsessed with reading, writing, and MTV, logging hours studying music videos and imagining a world of his own. At home, his father worked as a DJ, filling the house with salsa, merengue, and a sprawling CD collection that taught Joaicon early on that music was never meant to live inside one genre.
That openness still defines him. Asked about his biggest inspiration, he describes himself less as someone chasing a single influence and more as "a sponge," pulling from music, film, fashion, and internet culture, then reshaping it all into something that feels distinctly his.
That philosophy is front and center in his next move. Joaicon has just finished his second EP, due out in early 2027, and he's calling it a sharp turn from his previous, more pop/R&B-leaning project. This one leans into techno and electronic production, built around what he describes as a "dark party in neon lights" glittery, fluorescent, and relentlessly danceable on the surface, while the lyrics dig into something heavier and more emotional underneath.
Much of that emotional core comes from his experience as a queer artist, though he's careful not to over-explain what listeners should take from it. His hope is simpler: that people find pieces of themselves in the contrast, lose themselves in the music, and feel free to be messy, emotional, and fully themselves on the dance floor.
For Joaicon, the songs are just one part of a larger, ongoing visual world he's constructing, one he describes as colorful, glamorous, a little chaotic, and unapologetically fun. As he puts it, welcome to the party.
