Inkster, Michigan isn't exactly known as a music hub, but it's where KingDez found his voice — literally. He got his start in the booth as a way to process depression tied to abandonment issues and other struggles from his upbringing, raised by his grandparents and left to figure out resilience on his own. What began as an outlet for pain, he says, turned into a genuine passion, and that origin story still shapes the R&B/pop sound he's building today.
KingDez points to T-Pain as his biggest inspiration, not just for the sound but for the story — an artist who took adversity and turned it into a lane of his own. That same throughline runs through KingDez's own catalog, including tracks like "City," "Picasso," "Grateful," "No Favors," and "Far Ahead," which blend Pop, R&B, and Hip-Hop into what he calls a reflection of "pain, perseverance, and triumph."
Right now, KingDez is heads-down on his next album, "The Come Up," which he describes as a feature-heavy project. He's also worked with artists including 10kAce, StyJay, WAVVYVONN, and FeeNom Davis, and says his music has picked up radio play in Atlanta alongside touring dates.
At the center of it all is a simple message he wants listeners to walk away with: believe in yourself, chase your dreams no matter what, enjoy your life, stay positive, and hustle for greatness. It's a mission statement as much as a mantra — the idea, as he puts it, that darkness can be transformed into light.
For an artist who says he's self-taught and self-made, KingDez's story so far reads less like an overnight arrival and more like a slow, deliberate build. With "The Come Up" on the way, Atlanta listeners will get another chapter of that journey soon.
