Lamar Boster didn't start with a studio or a producer — he started with an iPhone and a need to get feelings out. At 16, unable to afford proper equipment, he began recording on his phone simply because the pull toward music was stronger than the obstacles in front of him. Years later, he's still making beats and vocals on that same device, except now he's teaching himself to produce, record, mix, and write every part of his own songs. The R&B artist, who is keeping his hometown private for safety reasons, traces his sound back to 2022, when he had zero technical knowledge and nothing but determination. Citing Frank Ocean's honesty and Kid Cudi's emotional creativity as his biggest touchstones, Lamar built his catalog from the ground up — releasing his debut single "In My Room" in fall 2023, followed by tracks like "Dream Girl," "Sad Mode," and "In My Dreams" that leaned into dark, atmospheric production and unfiltered lyricism. His music comes from a real place: unrequited love, depression, loneliness, and coping habits he's open about not being proud of. "This stuff came out of a hard time chasing someone who didn't feel the same," he says, "and using stuff I shouldn't have to cope with that." He's not interested in offering answers or life lessons through his songs — just company. As he puts it, if a track "makes one person feel a little less alone at 2am, that's enough." That intention is carrying into his next chapter. Lamar is currently working on his debut EP, pushing himself toward sharper production and a more developed sound than anything he's released before. For an artist who taught himself everything from scratch, on a phone, in his room, it's the natural next step — chasing authenticity over polish, and connection over perfection.
