Marquies Brown: Building Careers, Not Just Playlists

Marquies Brown didn't set out to become an A&R and talent manager — he started as a background dancer in Chicago back in 2010. But the studio sessions kept pulling him in. Invited to sit in on recordings, he found himself offering creative input on sound, image, and rollout strategy, and realized his real gift was in shaping artists' careers rather than performing alongside them. That path deepened when he began working with Redds Angelz under mentor Mike Henderson, a relationship he credits as a turning point that pushed him into creative direction work alongside established artists. In 2023, Brown relocated to Atlanta, a city he says is "surrounded by great music," and had to build his name from scratch. An early opportunity working with Armon Warren and choreographer Artrell helped him establish footing in the city's scene. That work eventually connected him with Yori, who became both a business partner and, in his words, a brother. Together they founded A&R Collective, a platform focused on discovering artists and giving them real direction. Brown has since also stepped into A&R work with Jacquees' label, FYB Records. Brown traces his drive back to his grandmother, who raised him around church music and a family that loved to dance, and who told him as a kid that whatever he wanted in life, he could make happen. She has since passed, and he says everything he does now is in her memory. These days, Brown manages R&B duo Bluff City, who have toured twice this year and are working with producer iRocksays on an EP due out in December. He's also preparing A&R Collective's second annual R&B Night Live, a platform for emerging artists, this December. For Brown, the goal isn't just placements or hits — it's opening doors the way they were once opened for him.
