Mike Norris didn't set out to become a music publishing executive, but a front-row seat to the industry's money side changed his trajectory for good. While earning his Music Management degree at Georgia State University, he worked at Minter & Associates law firm, learning the mechanics of publishing deals. What stuck with him wasn't the paperwork, it was how many talented artists never saw money they were owed. That realization set the course for his career since. Today, Norris is based in Atlanta, where he works as a music publishing executive, manager, and entrepreneur. His focus is helping artists and songwriters own, protect, and profit from their catalogs, work he sees as both creative and deeply business-minded. He points to Clarence Avant and Quincy Jones as the figures who shaped that philosophy, Avant for proving that the most influential person in the room is often the one structuring the deal, and Jones for showing that an artist can operate at the highest levels of business without losing the creative edge. Norris describes himself as building his own career at that same intersection. His current work spans several fronts. Through a joint venture with Payday Music Publishing, he recently signed Atlanta artist Duke Deuce. He's also partnered with a Canadian distribution company to help bring his artists to international audiences. Alongside that, he's scaling Sovereignty Digital, a rights administration platform he founded to help independent songwriters track and collect royalties owed to them. Norris, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is also pursuing an MBA in International Business at Georgia State's Robinson College of Business. Outside the office, he plays trumpet in hip-hop settings. At the core of his work is a simple message: artists can own their rights and still win commercially. He wants creatives to understand the business behind the music, protect what's theirs, and build wealth that outlasts any single hit.
