Nevik Wright has been making music for 16 years, and the roots of that journey trace back to his own neighbourhood in Kingston, Jamaica. He started writing as a way to process what he was living through at home, hoping the lessons he found along the way could help someone else going through the same thing. Music, he says, became the way he made himself heard when words alone weren't enough.
His path took him from working with Lion Brothers Entertainment around 2008-2010, then briefly with American record labels, before those contracts ended and he decided to go fully independent — teaching himself Pro Tools and every other piece of the production process. Eventually he relocated to the UK, where he built a home studio and kept developing his craft on his own terms, writing, recording, mixing, and producing his own work from concept to master.
That independent streak runs through everything he does. Beyond music, he's also been writing short books and comic books, extending the same storytelling instinct into other mediums. His sound blends the reggae and dancehall he grew up on — he points to Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Capleton, Sizzla, Vybz Kartel, Mavado, Beenie Man, and Bounty Killer as key influences — with hip-hop touchstones like 2Pac, Biggie, Busta Rhymes, and Rakim.
Right now, Wright is focused on his new single "BIG STAR," a collaboration with Brazilian producer DJ Rchagas (Ronaldo Chagas de Paula), releasing through Bentley Records. He's also deep into work on a new full-length album, building it entirely on his own.
For Wright, the goal isn't just sound for sound's sake — he wants listeners to walk away with a fresh perspective, real guidance, and the sense that they can rise above whatever they're facing. As he puts it, if his music helps even one person move forward clearer and stronger, he's done what he set out to do.
