Long before he was recording in studios, Yung Princey was performing for crowds at poetry nights and open mics his mom would bring him to as a kid. That early stage time planted the seed for what's become a growing R&B and hip-hop project rooted in Phoenix, Arizona, though his story actually starts in Minnesota, where he was born Abdul-Aziz Muhammad before the family's move west.
His sound draws from two different eras at once. On one side are the R&B voices he grew up on -- Lloyd, Prince, Day26, and Sammie -- artists whose influence shows up in his melodic instincts. On the other are the songwriters and hitmakers who pushed him to actually start making music himself: Jacquees, Chris Brown, and Drake. That blend of classic R&B feel and modern song-craft is what he's aiming for as he tries, in his words, to bridge different genres into something dynamic and well-rounded.
Princey's next release continues a project he's been building for a while: The Toxic One 6, the latest chapter in his ongoing Toxic One series, which he calls the R&B run that started his whole journey. Rather than a one-off single, it's a continuation of a world he's been developing release by release.
For listeners, he says the goal is simple on the surface but personal underneath -- music that's catchy enough to get stuck in your head, but that also works as an escape. Beyond the hooks, he wants people to hear the work behind it, the perseverance that's gotten him to this point.
With The Toxic One 6 on the way, Yung Princey is continuing to build out his catalog one entry at a time, betting that consistency -- and a sound shaped by both old-school R&B and current hip-hop -- will be what sets him apart.
